Quick Tips | Minimum Wage

income calculations quick tips Jan 18, 2023

Facts | By law, persons who work minimum wage jobs generally must make at least a state's minimum wage when tips are added to their wages.

Implication | An owner/agent can't just take the $2.13 an hour federal or other state minimum wage that a service employer lists when verifying income for their tipped employee. Tips must be verified with the employer or via self-affidavit with the employee. Either way, by law in most situations the total wage + tips should at least be the prevailing minimum wage.

Resource | What is the minimum wage in specific areas where you operate housing? Visit the Department of Labor website page HERE. Be sure to check periodically. It can change!
