News | HUD Extends HOTMA Compliance Date for MFH Programs

In an unsurprising move, HUD has moved the HOTMA final rule compliance date for HUD multifamily housing program purposes to January 1, 2026. This extended the July 1, 2025 date from the last Notice H 2024–09.
What does this mean for LIHTC and HOME? This does not directly apply to LIHTC or HOME/NHTF properties without HUD funding. The individual monitoring agencies dictate the HOTMA compliance date for those programs. Many agencies that have not implemented HOTMA already and that were going with the 7/1/2025 date have indicated that they will not delay implementation any further beyond July 1, 2025. Rural Development has also announced that it will not delay implementation for RD properties past July 1.
